Undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in efforts to develop specialty products based on local culture and traditions. The work involves cooperation with municipal agencies as well as community volunteer organizations. The academic goal of the program is to enable students to understand the relationship between the theoretical models they learn in classwork and actual real world applications. Hopefully the experience will help prepare students for future employment situations. This paper describes the process and content of the project, and examines whether participating students are able to create opportunities for personal growth as a result of their participation.
