 note = {本稿は、外国文学の作品を研究し作品論を完成させる際に、土台となる論者の最初の精読に対して考察したものである。筆者自身の自戒によれば、筆者は今まで作品論の立論に際して、筆者自身の読解を確立することを待たずに、安易に大量の参考文献に頼り、外国人（日本人）論者としての独自性や、一個人としての研究の独自性などを特に提示することなく、作品論を発表してきたように感じている。このような筆者自身の自戒のもと、論文の独自性に寄与しうる論者自身の読解を重要視することを再認識し、その重要性を喚起することを目的に本稿は執筆された。具体的に、外国人としての読み方はどのようなものであるか、また、参考文献に頼らない初期段階の一個人としての読み方はどのようなものであるかを、トマス・ハーディの詩二篇の読解を通して、本稿ではそれらの一例を明示している。その際に、主に語学や詩型・韻律分析に対する配慮が不可欠であることを示唆した。, This paper highlights the close reading on which the study of foreign literary works is based. I admit that I have, until recently, written papers that are not unique; I simply rely on many academic references without establishing my own explication through a close reading, and I am not conscious of my own originality or uniqueness as a foreigner or as an individual. This admission leads me to recognize the importance of close reading in the first stages of study, through which the writer’s own explication can be established. It is why close reading, in this paper, is highlighted. By way of example, I show how a foreigner reads foreign works and discuss individual ways of reading that do not pay attention to references in the first stages of study, through the reading of two poems by Thomas Hardy. This paper also suggests that it should be necessary when reading English poetry to pay careful attention to grammar and prosody., 2},
