Of the 290 member schools of the Japan Association of Nursing Programs in Universities, 268 schools were targeted, excluding 22 schools where all students in the public health nursing program must take practical training. It was found that 45 schools had practical training, and there were 17 training sites, most of which were municipal health centers, community comprehensive support centers, and district surveys. The training contents were mainly observation and participation in projects and activities, but students also conducted home visits for residents in the cooperating areas and performed planning, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, the achievement objectives were grouped into eight categories, including“understanding the subject and community,”“providing assistance,”and“understanding the role of the nursing profession.
